Understanding What A Locksmith Does

Locked Out of Your Vehicle? Here's 4 Ways to Get You Back In

by Maëly Richard

At one point in time or another, you or someone you know of has probably found themselves on the other side of a car door staring inside at car keys that got locked in. Thankfully, you don't have to break the glass or immediately call a locksmith. There are a few safe methods to get your keys out so you can get back on the road.

Shoelaces are for More Than Shoes

Grab your shoelace and form a small noose in the middle. Gently hold the lace at both ends and push it into the crack between the frame and the door. Pull the lace down until you have the loop wrapped around the vehicle lock. Firmly tighten your noose and pull on the shoelace. The lock should pop up and you should be set to go.

Rousing Game of Tennis

If you have a tennis ball, you might be able to get into your vehicle. You just need to put a small hole in your tennis ball. Put that hole over the lock on the outside of your vehicle door to create a seal around it. Squeeze the ball until you have forced enough air into the lock that it pops up without you having to do any major damage along the way.

Your Trunk is a Great Entry Point

While many people don't think about it, the trunk is an easy way to gain access to the inside of your vehicle. If your trunk happens to be open, you can push the back seat down and make your way through the small space and into the inside of your vehicle in a matter of minutes. Unfortunately, this isn't going to work for everyone, but it can be a lifesaver for many people who still have access to their trunks but not the inside of their vehicles.

Turn to a Professional

For those who can't use these methods, the next best option is to turn to a locksmith for cars, like Agape 24 Hour Locksmith Columbia, who can help you get into your vehicle without damaging it. While this option could take an extra few minutes of your time to wait for the professional to arrive, you will be glad you waited, because soon your stress will be eased.

Remember: don't panic. Spend some time evaluating the situation before making any rash decisions and getting yourself in bigger trouble than you already are.
